When I don't know what to write, I rewrite some expressions that are used on Weibo and used internationally as well.
Just yesterday, someone asked me why it was called watermelon, and then let's show this post at once
Watermelon / melon
Meaning - Gossip / Rumor
Original word - gua (瓜)
Derivation - When you watch what shows, you bet on them, don't you? Popcorn in the West If there's a match, I'll watch with respect and respect. Guazi (瓜子) in Chinese is the seed of the melon.
Melon - gua (瓜) also refers to all melons/frogs, eating guazi (瓜子) comes from an advertisement on trains in China that says "matchmakers in the front row, matchmakers in the front row". I don't know what kind of ad I've heard of. It must be a matchmaker ad lol
From there, while watching the game, he said, After a while, I took off the si and ate a divorce - from saying chi gua (吃瓜), gossips and rumors called it "divorce eating". In English, I used the abbreviation "melon" to eat watermelon in Burma. They also used gua as a watermelon emoji.
The motto of Chinese weibo users is chi gua bu xin gua (吃瓜不信瓜) "Don't believe it, don't believe it", which means don't believe rumors.
Studio
Meaning - The group that manages the reputation
Original expression - Gongzuo Shi (workshop)
Origin - When I first came into contact with the Chinese entertainment world, I didn't know what the studio was talking about. Gongzuo means work, Shi means room/room. Gongzuo Shi means "workshop" / "workroom" and they translate it almost directly and use it as Studio.
If you want to know the difference between Studio and Ent, you can continue reading here.
Rub Heat
Meaning - Intruding on other people's advertising
Original term - ceng redu (曾热度)
Derivation - Redu means to say, Re is heat, Du is time (temperature, weight is time) Redu is temperature, but what is trending on Weibo is called Resou (Re = hot, sou = search), so Redu is how popular a person is.
Sometimes, if one person is a trend, the other will use the trend to his advantage. For example, If the actor is a trend for the film, the actress will talk about him in relation to that trend. Or, while people are praising one member of the group, another member of the group pulls the trend to talk about him. Or when an athlete wins gold and people still love him, congratulating him and getting attention. Various.
Doing that is called "ceng" (re) of other people's fame. When I translated it directly into English, it turned out to be rub heat.
Cut Leek
Meaning - squeeze money
Original term - ge jiucai (割韭菜)
Derivation - Leek has long been used in China to refer to the oppressed. Later, in the stock market, the bigwigs began to use the name Cutting leek to exploit the monopolists. Does the leek grow? In the same way, no matter how the tycoons exploit, the people who will be exploited (leek) will not run out.
Later, in the entertainment world, it was used to refer to idols making a lot of money. If you advertise the products, how many of the idols will be released after they sell out? How many albums will be sold, and will they release a bts video? Asking people to buy music, they refer to everything as cut leek.
The fans are happy to do these things. Are you happy to do this to someone you like? Passers-by thought that he was not their favorite person and that all of this was extorting money from the fans.
As far as I can think of at the moment, these are the letters. I want to know more.
Read it in Burmese.
